THERE will be a historic occasion recreated on Monday, July 17, as part of the Droitwich ArtsFest.
To celebrate 300 years of Handel’s Water Music, actors playing King George I, George Frideric Handel, Robert Walpole and a surprise guest will be in Vines Park.
The time is significant in that it will be almost to the very hour that Handel’s Water Music was first played on the River Thames in London.
The Blackwell Concert band will be on the canal playing Handel’s music aboard the Canal and River Trust workboat, the Wanderer, which is being converted into a ‘royal barge’ for the evening.
The Droitwich Waterways (Pamela May) Trust Ltd will be crewing this ‘barge’ and the Pamela May trip boat will be carrying special guests.
On the canal bank, near the Waitrose swing bridge, there will be a commentary on Handel’s work with fun playacting thanks to the Norbury Theatre and the Droitwich Arts Network.
The event is free but there will be a collection box for St Richard’s Hospice.
This event is one of many being held during Droitwich ArtsFest 2017 which runs from tomorrow until August 5.
