Droitwich Spa High School to stage modern-day version of Romeo and Juliet

Droitwich Editorial 19th Nov, 2018   0

STUDENTS at Droitwich Spa High School will be staging a modern-day version of Romeo and Juliet next Monday and Tuesday, November 26 and 27.

Over 60 students between year eight and 13 will feature in the Shakespeare classic, with the school’s ukulele, string and rock groups featuring in the production.

Show producer and director Mark Aitchinson, a drama teacher at Droitwich Spa High, said: “Using live music is very much in keeping with the original Elizabethan productions of Shakespeare, although audiences 400 years ago wouldn’t have expected to see ukuleles.

“We have reduced the script to make it more accessible to our younger actors and have chosen to set the play in the modern era so as to highlight and explore the central theme of the play, the devastation caused when society divides itself into factions.”

The show will start at 7pm on both dates.

Tickets are available for £5 on the Parentpay website or through emailing events@droitwichspahigh.worcs.sch.uk.
