MADCAP Theatre Productions, based in Stoke Prior in Bromsgrove, will be kicking off their national tour of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing with an open air performance at St Andrew’s Church in Droitwich next Friday (July 1).
The critically acclaimed group has built up an impressive reputation for producing funny, fast-paced and entertaining theatre with a lot of lively ‘MadCap’ flair.
The shows by MadCap appeal to both Shakespeare fans and those who typically shy away from the Bard because of the way the original text is combined with a modern expression of humour, music and physical theatre, making the plays understandable and enjoyable.
Much Ado About Nothing is the original romantic comedy, and stars the timeless characters of Benedick and Beatrice as they try to avoid what their friends already know, that they are perfect for one another.
The show is full of dazzling dialogue, drama, intrigue and a few horrible villains – the perfect play for a summer’s evening.
MadCap’s artistic director Emma Leigh said: “This is a really exciting time for MadCaps and with Much Ado About Nothing being one of my personal favourites, I can’t wait to take it on tour.”
At their open air productions, the company invites audiences to bring their own chairs, rugs, picnics and drinks.
“There is something idyllic about seeing an open air Shakespeare in some of the Midland’s most stunning surroundings,” added Emma.
Tickets for their Droitwich performance, at £15 (£12.50 concessions) are available by calling 01905 827354.
The church is also selling strawberries and cream as an interval treat.
MadCap is performing at a host of other venues in Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Gloucestershire and Herefordshire.
