WEST Midland Safari Park promises roar-some fun for all the family this Easter, including a brand new exhibit, writes Philippa Mingins
Many will remember the childhood ditty, “Daddy’s taking us to the zoo tomorrow” and no other zoo quite encapsulates that sense of excitement and anticipation than West Midland Safari Park at Bewdley.
It is a zoo with a difference – enabling visitors to get closer than usual to the animals on its Safari Drive-Through.
Families can set off in their own cars through the park and drive amongst prowling lions, graceful giraffes and entertaining elephants like a real African adventure. Animal lovers need only squint their eyes to believe they are cheetah spotting on the wild plains.
Then there is a chance for families to stretch their legs around the plethora of other safari park entertainments. Watch penguins swim, sea lions perform, brave the bat caves and wear a snake around the neck on the Discovery Trail.
Stroke pygmy goats and marvel at cheeky meerkats at the African Village.
While a spectacular and startling exhibit has to be the “Land of the Living Dinosaurs” with a new star of the show – the terrifying Spinosaurus.
Animatronic and life size with sound effects of roars and stomps, walk amongst Triceratops and T-Rex and be fooled into thinking these are as real as the rhinos of earlier.
Still not tired, then head to the theme park where visitors can sample white knuckle rides, child-friendly carousels and arcade games, all before heading to the well-stocked gift shop for a memento.
Daddy took us to the zoo, and we certainly did stay all day.
