A MAN attempted to steal a purse from an 82-year-old woman’s handbag while she shopped at the Waitrose in Droitwich on Monday (June 9).
It began between 12.50pm and 1.30pm when the man approached the elderly woman and asked her to pass him a carton of cranberry juice from the shelf.
As she did, he pretended to be indecisive and asked her for a different type and, as she reached for that, she felt movement in her handbag.
When she looked down, she saw his hand rummaging through her bag.
The quick-thinking pensioner grabbed hold of his hand and began screaming and the man, after grappling free, was forced to flee empty-handed.
He was white, 5ft 8ins tall and aged in his 20s or 30s. He had short fair hair, which was slightly ginger, and a ruddy complexion.
He was wearing a red, blue and green short-sleeved shirt.
Any witnesses to the incident or anyone with any information should call 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
