Droitwich Editorial 5th Jun, 2014 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

A FOOD-LOVER from Droitwich could land what would be there dream role – a chief taster at the Chateau Impney Hotel.

A search has been launched to find a suitable person to try out and give their opinions on new dishes before they are added to the venue’s menus.

It is thought it is the first time such a role has been created in the UK and the lucky chosen one will be given their own chef’s whites, complete with prestigious ‘Chief Taster in Residence’ logo which they will be the only one to wear.

They will work with the hotel’s executive chef and his team on a monthly basis, testing food and giving feedback on dishes which are constantly being developed for the seasonally changing menus.

Applicants need no formal catering qualifications or experience of working in hotels, but do need a well-developed palate and a passion for food.

To apply, tasters to be should visit the hotel’s website at www.chateau-impney.com and fill out the online entry form.

A judging panel will assess every application and whittle the entries down to eight finalists.

Finalists will be pitted against each other at the Chateau in a number of taste battles to put their palates to the test.

Ben Elder is the general manager of the Chateau Impney which serves well over 50,000 meals-a-year across its restaurant, bar and conference and exhibition facililites.

He said: “In recent years, the plethora of cooking-based reality TV shows has demonstrated just how well-informed the Great British public are when it comes to food.

“While the majority of the contestants in such shows are often just everyday people, they have the most fantastic understanding of flavours and a well-developed palate.

“It’s this knowledge and passion that we want to harness so we can build upon the already great food we deliver to customers on a daily basis.

“The appointment of a Taster in Residence will give us independent input and feedback, which will help us to develop and test our menus for the benefit of our diners.”

He added the panel was looking forward to going through the applications in the hunt for the UK’s first taster in residence.

The deadline for entries is June 30.
