KNITTERS from across Droitwich have helped the town’s Age UK branch produce 235 woolly hats as part of the annual Big Knit campaign.
Members of the Droitwich Spa Knitting Circle, volunteers and staff joined forces for the drive and the hats collected – some 800,000 nationwide – have now been put on Innocent Smoothie bottles.
The bottles are now on the shelves and in return for people’s efforts, the fruit drink firm is giving 25p to Age UK for every one sold in the next fortnight.
As a contributor to the Big Knit campaign, Age UK Droitwich Spa will receive a share of the donations to support services for older people in Droitwich and the surrounding area.
Chief officer Jan Phillips said: “We are very grateful to the Droitwich Spa Knitting Circle, our volunteers and staff for the wonderful support they gave to the campaign by knitting, packing and despatching hats.
“We held a Big Knit drop-in at our offices where knitters could share patterns and knit hats over several cups of tea and biscuits.”
