Droitwich nurse highly commended at regional award ceremony

Droitwich Editorial 22nd Oct, 2024   0

A NURSE in Droitwich has been highly commended for her work within the country after making the finals of a regional award.

Mandy Burgwin, a senior staff outpatient nurse at Droitwich Spa Hospital, made the finals of the Worcestershire Health & Social Care Awards last month.

She narrowly missed out after being shortlisted for the Good Nurse Award in the final at the Bank House Hotel, Worcester.

The Worcestershire Heath and Social Care Awards highlight employees working within the care industry in Worcestershire who go above and beyond for their patients and colleagues.

Her career has so far spanned over forty-four years working in various hospitals across the county.

She started at Droitwich Spa Hospital in 2003 as a staff nurse before progressing to a senior role. She continues to treat and serve hundreds of patients every year.

Mandy then changed roles to work within the Outpatient team but continued to support her ward colleagues working additional shifts at the weekend for several years, maintaining a close relationship with them, improving collaboration and commitment within departments.

Only three nominees made the final, each with their own heartwarming back story so for each of them, this was a fantastic achievement.

A nurse working for Birmingham Children’s Hospital’s Cardiac Department won the award, but the hospital was very proud of their Droitwich based Outpatient nurse.

Karina Round, clinical services manager for outpatients and preassessment said: “If you were to cut Mandy in half, you would see she has “above and beyond” written through her like a stick of rock.

“Nothing is too much trouble for her when it comes to looking after patients or supporting her colleagues.

“She is an exceptional outpatient nurse who consistently demonstrates unwavering dedication, compassion, and excellence in her role, always putting patients first in everything she does. We are very proud she is part of our team.”
