Droitwich Spa High School gets its own defibrillator

Droitwich Editorial 31st May, 2015 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

DROITWICH Spa High School now has its own defibrillator in case of a medical emergency.

The machine, which cost more than £1,300, has been paid for by a series of non-uniform days across the school year.

Ten members of staff have been trained to use the machine which delivers a therapeutic dose of electrical energy to the heart, allowing normal sinus rhythm to be re-established by the body’s natural pacemaker in the sinoatrial node of the heart.

Tracy Lakin, one of those trained to use the machine, said: ‘Of course, we hope we never have to use it, but like epi-pens and emergency doses of insulin, it is one of those things that just might save someone’s life, so we are very grateful to everyone who helped us raise the money to buy it.’
