AN APPEAL has been launched by Droitwich’s Specsavers for items for the town’s foodbank to help those in need, writes Madison Rogers.
The drive is being run in conjunction with National Foodbank Day which takes place on September 1.
Staff at the opticians in St Andrews Square in Salter’s Shopping Centre are inviting both their customers and the local community to help with the food donations.
The Specsavers team is hoping as many people as possible will donate items of non-perishable food and toiletries to support those living below the poverty line.
The store’s director Emma Singh said foodbanks all over the country were experiencing extremely high demand because so many people were struggling to put food on the table.
“With food often being something that people first neglect when household budgets are stretched, we want to support those who are struggling in our community by inviting members of the public to join us in our efforts to donate as much as we can to Droitwich Foodbank,” she added.
Emma said she and her colleagues were incredibly grateful for the overwhelming amount of donations already received and added it had been great to see the community come together and support such an important cause.
Anyone who can help can donate items to Droitwich Specsavers between now and next Sunday, September 1, during the store’s opening times – 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
