Latest homes given go ahead for Salwarpe

Droitwich Editorial 18th Sep, 2014 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

THE SECOND phase of a major development which will see 740 homes built in Salwarpe has been given the green light by councillors.

William Davis Ltd’s proposals for 62 properties on the land between Roman Way and Copcut Lane were unanimously approved by Wychavon District Council’s planning committee last Thursday (September 11).

Members’ approval of the traditional brick and tile houses follow on from their thumbs-up to 280 properties back in September.

Coun Tony Miller, representing the Lovett and North Claines Ward, said highways issues including traffic lights and parking needed to be looked at due to the scale of the development.

“It’s a very large site we have here and it will be a big impact on the local community as well,” he said.

“There are going to be some real changes to the original highways area because of this development and I want to be assured we do look into this and take it into consideration when considering this site.”

Coun Ken Jennings, representing Droitwich Spa South East, added: “This is a small part of a very large site.

“I have no concerns over this at all, it seems to be perfectly satisfactory, perfectly standard and a perfectly ordinary housing development as part of a large housing site.”

The latest stage of the plans will see 33 detached and semi detached houses, 25 affordable homes and four bungalows built but Coun Audrey Steel, from the Inkberrow ward, said she was unhappy more bungalows hadn’t been included.

“I have no intention of opposing this but I am disappointed that out of 62 proposed buildings only four are bungalows.

“I would have loved to see at least ten per cent of these as bungalows.”
