TWO businesses in Droitwich Spa have been given a new lease of life with grant funding to face-lift the village’s aesthetic.
Nelly’s Yard and Ban Laeng Thai Massage Therapy on the Spa town’s popular high street have each received funding from the scheme to renovate their traditional shop frontages.
The Business Front Improvement Grant is a joint venture between Wychavon District Council and Droitwich Spa Place Board which offers businesses 50 per cent towards facade renovation costs.
Councillor Richard Morris, executive board member for economic growth and tourism on Wychavon District Council, said: “Keeping Droitwich Spa an attractive place to visit for residents and tourists alike is a priority.
“I am delighted we have been able to use our part of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to make these and many other improvements to our high street.”
The owner of Ban Laeng Thai Massage Therapy building was awarded £5,300 for help with new signage, repainting and repairing rotten wood and white plaster on the building.
Nick Rudge, owner of the Ban Laeng Thai Massage Therapy, said: “I am extremely grateful for the Council’s scheme, it has improved the look of my business and the high street.
“The fund has helped to revive and restore the buildings appearance and reinstate the traditional shop frontage features.”
Nelly’s Yard received £5,475 from the Fund to make many improvements including cleaned and filled render, replacement woodwork and a repainted shop frontage.
Mary Gandy, landlord of Nelly’s Yard, said: “The building looks so much better now the renovation works have been completed. I’m proud of my business, and the frontage is so much more inviting.
Droitwich Spa Place Board are currently assessing four more applications from the Drotwich Spa area. The window for new applications has closed.
Matt Nicol, chair of Droitwich Spa Place Board, said: “The improvements made will have an impact on our high street, it’s going to help showcase the town’s historic architecture and character. We’re proud to be part of this.”
