THE SUB-postmaster of the new Witton Post Office has said he was delighted the bid to reinstate the branch was successful.
And Raj Patel, who currently runs the well-established ChampagnePeople.com, said he accepted the challenge of running the counter after hearing of residents’ fears that it might never reopen.
The branch, on Worcester Road, closed in April and, when a new postmaster could not be found and, after a planning application was made to change it to a veterinary surgery, Spa residents feared it would be lost forever.
But a campaign by local residents and Droitwich Town Councillors, including current mayor Coun Bob Brookes, past mayor Coun Tom Noyes and Coun Graham Beale, helped get the proposal overturned by Wychavon District Council’s planning committee and on Monday (October 20) the Post Office will reopen.
The Mayor of Droitwich, Coun Bob Brookes, said it showed how effective the town council was in defending local services.
“If it wasn’t for the intervention of local councillors, the post office would not have re-opened.
“Local democracy has been seen to work.”
Mr Patel thanked the town council and said he was looking forward to opening the Post Office on Monday.
Post Office services will be available from 6.30am to 6pm Monday to Friday and between 7.30am and 1.30pm on Saturday.
