A RENOWNED British journalist and author is set to give a talk in Bromsgrove ahead of the Liberal Democrats’ annual general meeting.
John Sweeney, an award- winning writer, worked for 17 years at the BBC for Panorama and Newsnight, spending time undercover in Zimbabwe, North Korea, and twice in Chechnya.
John will discuss his latest book ‘Murder in the Gulag – the life and death of Alexei Navalny’, and his career in journalism on Friday, November 8 at 8pm. The talk will take place at Bromsgrove Sporting and is free to attend.
In his journalistic career, John has a history of holding the most powerful to account, having questioned Donald Trump about his links with the Mob which led to Trump storming out of the interview.
John also challenged Vladimir Putin by asking him about Russia’s role in the shooting down of flight MH17 over Ukraine which killed 298 people.
He has authored a total of 13 non-fiction books and four novels covering topics as diverse as Scientology and North Korea.
His dispatches in the Russian invasion of Ukraine and Battle of Kyiv were made famous by his orange hat.
One of John’s recent journalistic endeavours is a podcast exploring the validity of the convictions of Lucy Letby – the former neonatal nurse serving several life terms for the murders and attempted murders of several babies.
The podcast’s first episode launched on October 23.
Aside from journalism, John has recently tried his hand at politics, standing as a Lib Dem candidate for Sutton Coldfield in July’s election.
