WORKS to clear an important pedestrian path in Fernhill Heath have finally been completed to the delight of residents and local authority chiefs.
The path, along the A38 in Fernhill Heath, had become very narrow as a result of years of bushes and trees being left overgrown along the A38.
Residents, especially those with mobility issues and wheelchair users, were finding it almost impossible to get to the recreation ground at Bull Meadow.
Efforts to clear the pathway to make it safe and accessible were sparked by a residents recent fall on the pathway. The resident’s accident resulted in them falling into the road.
Worcestershire County Council’s highways chief, councillor Marc Bayliss, pushed for the works to be done to the delight of Fernhill Heath Parish Council chairman, Meg Farmer.
Coun Bayliss said: “I am so pleased with the work the team has done to fix this issue for local residents.
“They have made a big difference by really cutting back the bushes and trees and restoring the path to its correct width.
“The parish council under Meg’s leadership has done such a great job in making the new recreational area at Bull Meadow such an attractive place that it was such a shame that some people couldn’t access it safely.
“The path is now so much more user friendly and safe. It will also mean that resurfacing work on the path can be undertaken easier and make it even better.”
North Claines Parish Council has been approached for comment.
