TWO RENOWNED food critics, writers and chefs – one with links to royalty – will officially open this year’s Droitwich Spa Food and Drinks Festival, The Standard can reveal.

Tom Parker Bowles and Charles Campion, from BBC Masterchef, have been announced as the celebrity guests who will launch the big event.

Mr Parker Bowles is the son of the Duchess of Cornwall and the godson of the Prince of Wales.

An exciting line-up has been planned for the Droitwich Spa Summer Festival which features a host of events, between June 19 and July 5.

One of the first to happen will be the Food and Drink Festival Street Market, on June 20, where there will be up to 120 stalls displaying a range of products.

There will also be a demonstration kitchen featuring Droitwich and celebrity chefs, a junior bake-off and children’s food trail.

As well as this there will also be street entertainment taking place throughout the day in Droitwich Town centre plus a Kids Food Zone and a Catering Village in Victoria Square.

A Beer and Cider Festival will then be held in Vines Park on June 20 sponsored by Marston’s Brewery and supported by CAMRA (the Campaign for Real Ale).

As well as this there will also be a competition to find the best pie in Droitwich, Come Dine in Droitwich featuring local eateries and a Wine and Cheese evening at St Andrews Town Hotel, on June 25.

Visitors can also look forward to a Jazz evening at Gaudet Luce Golf Club on June 30 along with the Literary Festival and Edwardian Dinner Party Evening at the Chateau Impney, both being held on June 27. A Farmers Market and Art in View event will also be held in Victoria Square on July 4 followed by a Big Picnic in aid of New Hope Children’s Charity on July 5.

Patrick Davis, food and drink organiser, said: “I am thrilled with the progress of the summer festival at this stage with some 75 per sent of stalls and advertising already booked with still four months to go.

“It’s all shaping up to be a fantastic event for Droitwich and I hope people will support it.”
