Second passenger dies after M5 ambulance crash

A SECOND person involved in a crash on the M5 between Droitwich and Worcester has died in hospital.

The woman, aged 90, who was a passenger in a PTS (Passenger Transport Service) ambulance passed away on Friday night (February 20) two days after another 83-year-old man who was also in the vehicle.

Maurice Howard Tropman, from Bromsgrove, has been named as the first victim following Tuesday’s (February 17) crash on the northbound carriageway between Junction 6 and 5 which happened about 4.50pm.

Mr Tropman, who died about 11.30pm on Wednesday (February 18), was in the back of the ambulance on his way back from an appointment at the Worcestershire Royal when the incident, involving two other cars, occurred.




The ambulance driver was taken to hospital with neck injuries but has since been discharged. Three others who suffered minor injuries were taken to the Alex after being treated at the scene.

Sgt Gavin Green from Central Motorway Police Group, said: “This is a tragedy for all concerned.


“Our thoughts remain with the man and woman’s family and friends who are being supported by specialist police officers at this time.

“We need the public’s assistance to help us piece together what happened to provide the family with answers to their questions. I am are keen to hear from witnesses that may have seen the lead up to incident”

“I would also like to thank the public for their understanding and patience whilst we conducted an investigation at the scene.”
