PROGRESS has been made in the long-running battle to improve road safety in the small village of Ladywood between Fernhill Heath and Droitwich.
The small community has long been plagued by persistent speeding which is a real concern for local residents and road users.
Ladywood is currently a national speed limit area with cars regularly driving at speeds far in excess of the road conditions.
The road has become increasingly busy thanks to developments at Copcut Rise and the development of successful businesses such as Churchfields.
With no pavements along most of the route the speed of traffic has caused real issues for walkers, cyclists, horseriders as well as residents simply trying to safely get off their drives.
Worcestershire County Council’s transport chief and local council representative, Marc Bayliss, has been working with officers at the council on ways to improve safety and the council is now consulting on reducing the speed in the area to 40mph.
The consultation will run until November 1 and councillor Bayliss hopes people will support the move to help all road users in the area.
At a meeting with residents on Monday evening Marc was able to set out the plans to residents as well as announce further moves such as the installation of a VAS (vehicle activated speed camera.
Marc said: “I’m determined to do all I can to keep people safe and i am convinced reducing the speed in this area is needed, especially given the much increased traffic the road now carries.
“I will continue to work with residents to resolve this issue.”
