TWO NEW plaques will be officially unveiled in tribute to Droitwich historian Nelly Copson.
Royal Worcester expert Henry Sandon and Mayor Bob Brookes will do the honours at 2pm on Monday (April 20).
An interior brass plaque will be placed inside Nelly’s old shop at 40-42 High Street, Droitwich, which is now the Button Tree Café.
The exterior circular blue plaque will be placed above the doorway to 42 High Street, Droitwich, where Nelly was born in a first floor back room of this property on January 16, 1919.
Number 42 was also once the home of the Copson’s family boot repairing, leather and grindery business – that was established by Nelly’s mother in 1904.
Community champion John Cook and butcher Tom Lymer came up with the ideas for the plaques and donations have been collected – mostly from Droitwich High Street traders – to pay for the project.
