DROITWICH Spa FC has been dealt a bitter blow after being told their season has been made ‘null and void’ when they were 13 points clear at the top with eight games remaining, writes Callum Perry.
The Saltmen said they was disappointed with the decision but added it had made the club even more determined to hit the ground running when the new season started.
The club originally had plans to have a celebration night in recognition of its players, the coaches, and the volunteers during the 2019/20 season following their performance in the FA Vase.
“We should have been enjoying a celebration presentation night.
“However, due to the current crisis affecting all of our lives, it was not meant to be.
“Some things are more important than football.”
The club said the work was continuing and it was already making plans for next season but added there were still a lot of unanswered questions.
“There’s a great deal that we don’t know – we don’t know when the season will start, we don’t how many teams will be in our league, so we don’t know how many games we will have.”
In light of the current situation, the chairman has announced any current season ticket holders will be eligible to a significant discount on the tickets for the future season.
Bosses vowed to have a celebration when it could and if it was appropriate to ‘acknowledge the brilliant efforts made by all involved at the club’.
The statement concluded with: “To one and all, stay safe, stay healthy, and most importantly look after each other at this time.”
