A PIECE of brilliance from Brad Burgess helped Droitwich Spa overcome a stubborn Shipston Excelsior side and move into the next round of the Les James Challenge Cup.
The match looked set for extra time, with the teams locked at 1-1, but with seconds remaining Burgess fired in a fine volley to secure a well-deserved victory on Saturday.
Spa made several changes from the previous week as they brought in Grahame Pardoe, Jack Brighton and new signing Calum Burleigh – a product of Blackpool’s academy currently studying in Worcester.
And It was Burleigh who combined with Brighton to set up Lemon for the opener on the half hour mark.
But Shipston equalised moments later when a needless free kick allowed Sam Hince to put his side back on level terms.
The second half saw Spa with total possession and dominate the game with some neat football and good game management.
This was eventually rewarded right on full time when Burgess volleyed home from the edge of the box to give him his first senior goal.
Meanwhile, Fairfield Villa scored their first goal in four games when James Finn prodded home, but this was not enough to derail Midland Football League Division Two leaders Chelmsley Town who recorded a 3-1 win.
