TENNIS: THERE was disappointment with Bromsgrove teams just being edged out in two of the three matches this week.
Playing Stourbridge F Team in Division 6, the Ladies C Team lost by the narrowest of margins.
Ros Cooke and Lesley Hodson beat their opposite first pair 6-2, 7-5, but then went down 3-6, 5-7 to the Stourbridge second pair.
The pattern was repeated as Bromsgrove second pair of Lisa Rushton and Sheila Richardson won 6-4, 6-1 against the Stourbridge third pair, but went down to the opposition firsts 3-6, 4-6.
It was a similar story for Sue Murray and Sarah Davies, playing third pair for Bromsgrove. They convincingly beat their opposite pair 6-3, 6-4, but also went down to the very strong Stourbridge second pair 1-6, 1-6. Then with the match balanced 3-3 in rubbers and 6-6 in sets Bromsgrove just lost out 54-55 in games.
The Men’s C Team, playing Belbroughton A in Division 4 suffered a similar fate, being edged out 2-4 in another very close encounter. The result hinged on the outcome of a third set tie break in the last contest on court between the Bromsgove pairing of Voitek Niedzwiedz with Chris Mcgregor and Belbroughton’s second pair, but it went the wrong way with Bromsgrove losing 11-13.
Bromsgrove’s other pairs of Tim Wright with Mark Blake and captain John Casey with Alex Willis both won one and lost one. Captain Casey said afterwards: ‘It’s always disappointing to lose such a close match.
“We’ve a tough division this year with mainly ‘A’ teams to play against but I’m sure we’ll equip ourselves well.”
Finally, the Ladies Division seven contest between David Lloyd Worcester B Team and Bromsgrove E saw Bromsgrove go down 1-5.
With the David Lloyd team being a new team working their way up the divisions the result was no surprise.
Bromsgrove first pair of Anne Simper and Sue Forrest took the only rubber and had a close three set contest in the other, but David Lloyd were too strong for the second and third Bromsgrove pairs of Di Horton with Sue Corfield and Jean Thompson with Chris Mitchell.
This weekend it is free tennis for all on Saturday, May 17 from 12.30pm to 4.30pm see website www.bromsgovetennisclub.co.uk for more details or just come along for a go.
