DROITWICH Spa Ladies ended their Summer League Campaign on a disappointing note as they suffered a 6-1 defeat to Stourport Gold.
But this came after a 1-0 victory over Bromsgrove and captain Lucy Hine said she was impressive with her side’s efforts this summer.
“This summer league campaign has been pleasing, especially with the three wins, as it shows the group are beginning to play together and having confidence on the ball during this transitional period of time,” she said.
“It is also pleasing with the number of youngsters who are growing into women’s from juniors”
Droitwich did not get their season off to the best of starts as they lost 8-1 to Malvern College before slumping to another defeat to Bromsgrove.
But Spa’s were steadily improving and their first win of the campaign came against Kidderminster.
Strikes from Hannah Robson and Hine put Droitwich 2-0 in front before the away side fought back to make it 2-2 with ten minutes left.
But Droitwich’s perseverance was rewarded just before the final whistle as skipper Hine dispatched the ball from a penalty corner.
Hine bagged another goal in Spa’s 4-1 defeat to Stourport White before her side produced their best away performance of the season to beat Stourport Blue 5-1.
Worcester proved too good for Droitwich as they ran out 6-1 winners, but they quickly bounced back from that disappointment with a 1-0 win over Bromsgrove.
Hine bundled the ball home from a penalty corner, while Droitwich also had further chances with Jenny and Rachel Cooper going close as well as Emma Pingstone.
Spa would have been looking to finish the season on a high and they defended well in the final game, with Kayleigh Thomas coming to the fore.
However, Stourport Gold were too clinical as they took their chances well to claim a 6-1 win.
