DROITWICH Men’s A shot up to second in Division One of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Summer League after impressive victories over Bromsgrove A and Bewdley A.

In their first match against local rivals Bromsgrove, Ian Bowman and Jon Sarriegui battled hard against strong opposition but were unfortunate to lose the match 7-5, 6-7, 3-6.

Bowman and Sarriegui went on to lose their second match in two close sets 4-6, 4-6.

Lee Cowan with Mark Jones lost their first match 6-7, 6-1, 5-7 but responded brilliantly with a 6-1, 6-2 victory in their second.

Oliver Shier and Ben Buckley were also in excellent form as they came from a set down to win their first match 4-6, 6-3, 7-5 before a solid 6-4, 6-2 win in their second.

The Men’s A then followed up their win over Bromsgrove with the 5-1 defeat of Bewdley.

Jones and Bob Smith managed to win their first match 6-3, 6-1 but lost 0-6, 2-6 against a strong pair in the second clash.

Buckley and Bowman fought to the end to win their opening game 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 followed by a comfortable 6-3, 6-4 win in their second.

Finally, Cowan and Sarriegui won both of their matches in style. 6-0, 6-3 in the first and 6-4, 6-1 in the second to secure a fine victory.

TheĀ Mixed D team unfortunately picked up a losing draw against rivals Bromsgrove D in Division Five East.

Christina Sellers and Peter Fawcus managed to win both of their matches, the first in straight sets before a hard-fought three-setter in their second.

Despite the best efforts of Charlie Evans and Ricky Hollander, the pair lost their first match in a tight three-set battle before losing their second in straight sets.

The Men’s C team remain just one point above the relegation zone in Division Four East following a 6-0 loss away at Stourbridge D.

Robin Jones and Dave Wicks gave their all but were beaten in straight sets in both of their matches.

Neil Bates and Ben Steel lost their first match 2-6, 2-6 before losing a very close match 7-6, 1-6, 6-7.

Dave Lamb and Richard Skinner were also involved in two close matches but unfortunately could not pick up a much-needed victory.
