Double win for Hodges in the opens

ANGLING: WITH the fish cruising around the lake at Alvechurch Fisheries during the Thursday Open only 4lbs separated the top four places out of a full house of 18.

Local angler Gary Waldron, peg 36, fished the method feeder tactics throughout with punched paloni on the hook to the island for carp up to 8lbs and stockies for a whopping 60lb 15oz total to just win by the narrowest of margins from John Knight, peg 18, who fished the long pole down to the next pallet with 4mm pellet on the hook over 4mm feed to weigh carp and skimmers totalling 59lb 14oz.

Phil Watts, peg 12, fished the long pole to the small island with corn on the hook over light feed for carp and silvers to weigh 59lb 10oz.

Badger Whitby, peg 24, fished the long pole and pellet out in front and late down the edge to weigh carp and stockies for his total of 55lb 10oz.




At the Saturday Open a cold blustery wind put paid to the recent big weights with 18 fishing on the horseshoes with Trevor Hodges, peg 34, out in front with a total of 43lb 14oz.

Hodges fished the method feeder up to the island with corn on the hook and late down the edge on the pole with paste on the hook for carp and stockies. Second was Gary Clarke, peg 3, with 36lb 9oz and third was Les Ayres, peg 11, 20lb 14oz.


On Easter Monday a pm open saw 18 fish – first was Trevor Hodges, peg 5, pulled off an Easter weekend double adding to Saturday’s win fishing pole and pellets at 14.5m over a number of swims for a mixed bag of carp and skimmers to weigh 33lb 5oz,

Second was Dale Jackson, who is sponsored by Bone Hill Mill, peg 30, weighing 28lb 13oz and third was Mark workman, peg 12, 27lb 10oz fourth craig evand peg 28 fifth ron taylor peg 7 22-8 and sixth steve bellion 35 1913

As well as the opens the Arrow Lake has produced some healthy catches over the Easter break with many specimen fish being caught.

including a father a two sons catching 19 Carp up to 24lb on boilies and Mark Olds, fishery manager, catching an 18lb 11oz Ghost Carp on, peg 3, with monster crab boilies.
