Drew: It's going to take a very good team to beat Droitwich

ADAM DREW believes it’s going to take a very good side to beat his table-topping Droitwich this season after they made it seven wins out of seven in Midlands Three West (South) on Saturday.

Despite conceding an early penalty, Droitwich led Old Coventrians 25-11 by the break before running in four unanswered tries in the second half to secure a comfortable 51-11 victory.

The Glyn Mitchell Memorial Ground-based side sit on 34 points with a 100 per cent record after seven games, eight clear of second placed Old Leamingtonians, and director of rugby Drew says it’s going to take a good side to defeat them.

He said: “After beating Manor Park a fortnight ago to bring an end to their 13-game unbeaten run at home, I was very pleased to see us completely shut off Old Coventrians.

“They are a big unit but we gave away limited penalties and it was a fantastic performance from the lads.

“At the moment we are playing very well and it’s going to take a very good team to beat us.

“There’s plenty of character in this squad and we’re very strong so for somebody to beat us they’re going to have to play full on for all 80 minutes.

“We will not lie down and let anybody walk over us.”

Droitwich are away from league action on Saturday as they entertain Ludlow in the third round of the RFU Senior Vase but Drew says his priorities are firmly on the league.

“Everybody strives for silverware but I never think about it until we get to a cup final,” he added.
