DROITWICH Spa boss Wayne Oliver has put his side’s resurgence in form down to the impact of talented strikers James Lemon and Macauley Finch.
The duo arrived on loan last month from Worcester City’s academy, which is run by Oliver’s right hand man, Mark Owen, and the Spa manager believes they have been key to their revival.
Finch scored against FC Glades Sporting last Saturday as Droitwich claimed back-to-back 3-1 wins to move them out of the relegation zone in Midland Football League Division Two.
As well as providing a threat in front of goal as Lemon netted against Fairfield Villa, Oliver said they have injected much-needed pace into their side.
“They’ve made a massive impact,” he said. “They’ve bought a lot of youthful exhubarence and energy up front.
“Also as they are closing the opposition down it in turn helps our midfield and our defence not look so tired as the ball is not going to them all the time, so they have helped the whole side.
“I can’t say we were looking into Worcester’s academy when we took the job on, but due to Mark’s link it’s definitely something we can dig into a lot more next season.”
Oliver, whose side face Paget Rangers tomorrow (Saturday), said their victories over Fairfield and Glades had also kept their survival hopes alive as they now look ahead to a tough run of fixtures.
“The back end of January and throughout February is going to be extremely difficult, so if we can get something out of that it would be an absolute bonus for us,” he added.
“This is why the last six points have been so important becuase if we hadn’t have got anything we would be firmly in the bottom two and would have been sweating a little bit.
“We are probably looking at getting another four wins to keep us in the division, which is not impossible, so we are excited about the second half of the season.”
