DROITWICH suffered their second humiliating hammering of the season at the hands of Worcestershire County League Division One new boys when they were shot out for a paltry 37 by Stourport at St Peter’s Fields on Saturday.
After being dismissed for just 43 by Cookley on the campaign’s opening day of the season, Spa sank to new depths in an embarrassing seven-wicket defeat.
Stourport won the important toss and had no hesitation in inserting Droitwich on a wet wicket.
Despite some improved showings of late, the home batsmen were simply unable to cope with the bowler-friendly conditions and were all back in the pavilion by the 20th over with only all-rounder Max Young making double figures.
In reply, the visitors went on the offensive from the first delivery and coasted home in the seventh over for the loss of three wickets.
On a hugely disappointing afternoon, the only consolation for Droitwich was that the sides currently occupying the two relegation spots, Belbroughton and Oldswinford, were also beaten.
Despite the majority of Worcestershire County League fixtures being fulfilled, the other three Spa Saturday sides were all rained off without a ball being bowled.
This weekend, Droitwich’s Firsts travel to local rivals Worcester knowing a much improved performance is required, the Seconds host Avoncroft and the Thirds and Fourths both take on Stourbridge.
