A GROUP of Droitwich girls are jumping for joy after winning medals in a national skipping competition.
The team of pupils from Westacre Middle School took part in the National Jump Rope Championships at the Stratford-upon-Avon Leisure Centre.
All first-time competitors, Lymara Lines came third in 30-second speed step and came second in pairs double unders with Georgia Andrews, and all of them, including Izzy Rollitt, gained personal bests across all events.
Students from Westacre’s after-school Skipping Club also took part in a special workshop to learn new skills and received coaching from different skipping coaches from the UK and Europe.
Fiona Hennessey, Girls PE Leader and Skipping Club coach at Westacre, said: “The girls have worked extremely hard and took the competition in their stride.
“To come away with medals came as a huge shock as it was their first time, I am a very proud PE teacher”.
The team will next be in action in April at the first ever Jump Rope School Championships.
