DROITWICH’S Ladies B team moved to the summit of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Summer League Division Three table with two victories in a week.
The first was an impressive 4-2 win against Old Hill with the mother and daughter duo of Margaret and Kate Hughes continuing their excellent form with respective 6-3, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0 victories.
Heather Fellows and Sue Webber picked up a fine 6-3, 6-1 win in their first match before a tough 1-6, 6-2, 3-6 loss in their second.
Christine Carr and Karen Dobson lost in straight sets in their first match but managed to pick up an excellent 6-3, 7-5 win in their second to seal the points.
Droitwich’s second victory of the week came at home to Manor Park B.
Kate and Margaret Hughes again won 6-0, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-1 respectively in their matches.
Linda Price and Lydia Walker-Cox produced a determined performance to come back from behind to win 2-6, 7-5, 6-2 in their first match before a 2-6, 4-6 loss in their second.
Webber and Carr were then beaten 4-6, 1-6 before an excellent 7-6, 7-5 win which secured the victory.
The Men’s E team picked up a winning draw at Stourport-on-Severn C in Division Nine East.
Jonathan Carter and debutant Scott Gregory won their first match 7-5, 6-3 before a 6-2, 5-7, 4-6 defeat in their second.
Mark Venables and Phil Woodhouse gave their all but lost both of their matches 5-7, 0-6 and 5-7, 6-2, 6-7 respectively.
Richard Probyn-Skinner and Nigel Hughes were the stars of the show for Droitwich, winning their respective matches 6-3, 6-3 and 6-3, 6-4 to do enough to secure the winning draw.
The Ladies E were involved in a gripping encounter with Bewdley D in a Division Seven East relegation battle.
Joy Baker and Helen Whiteside got Droitwich off to a flying start with a 7-5, 6-4 win in their first match but lost their second 4-6, 4-6.
Shona Atherton and Bridget Gill were involved in two marathon matches, winning the first 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 before losing the next 6-2, 0-6, 2-6.
Despite the best efforts of Sue Brice and Karen Latham, they lost both of their matches 3-6, 6-4, 3-6 and 5-7, 4-6 respectively as Bewdley got the win.
The Mixed C team enjoyed a winning draw at Wall Heath in Division Five East.
Neil Bates and Christine Carr lost 7-5, 2-6, 6-7 in their first match before a straight-set defeat in their second.
Nick King and Sue Webber were in superb form and won both of their respective matches 6-2, 6-3 and 7-5, 7-5 to claim the points.
Elsewhere, the Ladies C team remain second in Division Six East following a losing draw at Pershore C.
Chris Sellers and Clare Evans lost 4-6,1-6 in their first match before a 6-2, 7-5 win in their second.
Liz French and Diane Owen also lost the first match 2-6, 4-6 but responded well with a 6-4, 6-2 victory in their second.
Ishbel Crossley and Elizabeth Fielden won their first match 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 but did not have much left in the tank for their second, which they lost 1-6, 3-6.
