THE DROITWICH Ladies F team got the better of the club’s G team in their Herefordshire and Worcestershire Winter League Division 11 East opener.
Bridget Gill and Shona Atherton, of the F team, won their first match 7-5, 6-2 against Helen Bibbey and Fiona Fogg followed by a solid 6-1, 6-1 win against Kate Bates and Lynne Williams.
Sue Bryce and Janine Billinge sealed the victory with a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Bates and Williams but lost their second match 5-7, 4-6 against Bibbey and Fogg as the F team secured a 3-1 victory.
The Ladies E team began their winter season in Division Nine East with a tricky away fixture against Bewdley C.
Julia Rollit and Eileen Probyn-Skinner lost both of their matches 6-2, 3-6, 4-6 and 1-6, 3-6 respectively as the hosts took the early advantage.
Despite the best efforts of Hazel Briggs and Megan Ross, they lost both of their respective matches 1-6, 0-6 and 4-6, 5-7 as Bewdley ran out comfortable 4-0 winners.
The Mixed F team kicked off their Division Eight East season against the Droitwich G team.
Phil Woodhouse and Gail Hamilton got the F team off to a flying start with a hard fought 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 win against Tony Barnby and Shona Atherton, before a solid 6-2, 6-2 victory over Steve Good and Helen Whiteside.
Paul Webber and Julia Rollit sealed the points for the F team with a 6-4, 6-4 success against Good and Whiteside followed by a 2-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory against Barnby and Atherton.
Meanwhile, the Mixed A and B teams started their Division Two season with the A team running out 4-0 winners.
Ian Bowman and Lisa Pettener-Jones produced two excellent performances to beat John Moran and Heather Fellows 6-1, 6-4 followed by a 6-4, 6-3 success against Ben Steel and Caroline Brookes.
The A team proved to be too strong as Joe Maidment and Marelize Yorke won 6-4, 6-0 against Brookes and Steel and sealed the win with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Fellows and Moran.
