Droitwich make point in draw

Droitwich Editorial 9th Oct, 2015 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

DROITWICH Spa and newly-promoted Austrey Rangers played out a game of two halves as they both had to settle for a draw at the King George Playing Fields.

A dominant first half saw Spa edge in front thanks to a goal from Nick Seabourne, but the visitors hit back in the second period and claimed a share of the spoils.

Having won their previous six matches, an unchanged Spa were in confident mood and created a number of chances. Although many of them were not converted, the hosts finally got the goal their play deserved as a sweeping move on the left saw Haydn Morris, James Lemon and Macaulay Finch combine before Seabourne slotted home from close range.

Droitwich should have doubled their lead, but wasteful finishing kept Rangers, who rarely entered their opponents’ half, in the match.

Management duo Wayne Oliver and Mark Owen would have been hoping to see their side kick on after the break, but instead they started slowly.

And after conceding their first corner of the game, Spa surrendered their lead as a perfect delivery led to an unchallenged bullet header which flew into the back of the net.

This did give Droitwich a wake-up call and they responded with a couple of chances late on, but once again they failed to find the finishing touch.

Meanwhile, Fairfield Villa suffered a 3-0 defeat to Midland Football League Division Two high fliers Alvis Sporting at the Recreation Ground.
