Droitwich Men's B promotion hopes all but over after losing draw

Droitwich Editorial 21st Jun, 2017   0

HOPES of securing promotion from Herefordshire and Worcestershire Summer League Division Four East are all but over for the Droitwich Men’s B team following their losing home draw to Hallow A.

Ian Bowman and Joe Maidment won an epic contest 6-2, 6-7, 7-6 before a solid 6-2, 6-2 victory in their second match.

Kevin Hodges and Bob Smith won 7-5, 6-4 in their first match before a 1-6, 6-2, 2-6 loss in their second.

Eric Cartelet and Rich Clive gave everything but unfortunately lost their first match 1-6, 4-6 and their second 4-6, 2-6 as Hallow won by the tightest of margins.

The Ladies D secured a 4-2 victory over David Lloyd Worcester C to move up to third in the Division Seven East table.

Julie Rhodes and Hazel Briggs lost their first match 4-6, 2-6 before an efficient display in their second match saw them run out 6-2, 6-4 winners.

Caroline Hawley and Angela Creese were in red hot form and won both of their matches 6-2, 6-2 and 6-4, 6-0 respectively.

An excellent performance from Alexa Dean and Jackie Holliday resulted in a 6-2, 6-1 victory and despite a 4-6, 6-0, 4-6 defeat in their second match, Droitwich ran out comfortable winners.

The Men’s E remain fifth in Division Nine East after a 4-2 defeat to fourth-placed Worcester G.

Jonathan Carter and Dan Ballard were the stars of the show as they won both of their matches 6-3, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-3 respectively.

Nigel Hughes and Mark Venables produced two hard working performances but it was not enough as they lost their first match 6-7, 4-6 and the second 3-6, 0-6.

Despite the best efforts of Steve Good and Sam Reavey, they lost both of their respective matches 3-6, 2-6 and 4-6, 6-7.

The Mixed A cemented their place at the summit of Division Two with a superb 4-0 victory at Manor Park C.

Dee Smith and Jon Sarriegui produced two performances of the highest quality to win 6-2, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-1 respectively.

Lisa Pettener-Jones and Joe Maidment were just as impressive, winning their first game 6-1, 6-0 and the second 6-4, 6-2.

Elsewhere, the under-16 boys team were narrowly beaten 2-1 by Division Two Group A leaders Redditch A.

James Stanford and Jonathan Coste put in a spirited performance as they pushed Redditch all the way but were eventually edged out.
