DROITWICH Men’s C team kicked off their Herefordshire and Worcestershire Aegon Division Four campaign this summer with an impressive 5-1 home victory against Worcester C.
Droitwich won all four singles matches with every one going to a third set championship tiebreak.
Bob Smith won his singles match 3-6, 6-1, 1-0, Robin Jones won his 7-5, 2-6, 1-0, Ricky Hollander won his 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 and James McKelvey won his 7-6, 3-6, 1-0.
In the first doubles match Smith and Jones could not repeat the trick and they lost 3-6, 6-3, 0-1 but Hollander and McKelvey produced a solid performance to win their doubles match 6-1, 7-6 to seal the victory.
The Aegon Men’s A team were also in action as they travelled to face local rivals Bromsgrove in their opening match in Division Two.
Mark Jones lost his singles match in a hard fought battle 4-6, 6-3, 0-1 but James Nam responded excellently after losing the first set in his singles match to come through 1-6, 6-2, 1-0.
Ian Bowman gave his all but lost 7-5, 4-6, 0-1 as Joe Maidment put Droitwich in the driving seat following a 6-1, 6-1 win in his singles match.
However, it was the doubles that Droitwich dominated as Nam and Jones produced a solid performance to win 6-4, 6-3 in their doubles match as Maidment and Bowman also won 7-5, 6-3 to secure the 4-2 win for Droitwich.
Elsewhere, the Mixed A and B teams faced each other as they kicked off their Division Two summer season.
The A team were superior in the end as Matt Baker and Lisa Pettener-Jones rallied to a fine 6-1, 6-1 victory over the B teams Penny Maidment and Ben Steel before an equally impressive display saw them beat John Moran and Margaret Hughes in straight sets.
Jon Sarriegui and Dee Smith battled to a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Moran and Hughes in their first match before a 6-2, 6-0 win against Steel and Maidment sealed a comfortable 4-0 success for the A team.
