DROITWICH Men’s D took one big step towards survival after a superb display saw them beat Stourport C 6-0 in Division Eight East of the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Summer League.

Chris Passey and Peter Fawcus were excellent in both of their matches as they won 6-2, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-1 respectively.

Josh McEvilly and James McKelvey also played brilliantly to win their first match 6-3, 6-2 and their second 6-1, 6-0.

Captain Ricky Hollander and youngster James Stanford also put on a strong performance to win 6-1, 6-2 in their first match before coming through a tricky second 6-0, 3-6, 6-3.

The Men’s B team took a giant step towards promotion from Division Five East with a superb 5-1 win against rivals Bromsgrove C.

Skipper Joe Maidment and Scott Howell produced two brilliant displays to win both of their matches 6-3, 6-3 and 6-4, 6-0.

Mark Pearsall and Bob Smith won their first match 6-4, 6-4 but lost their second 6-3, 6-7, 3-6.

Oliver Shier and Robin Poyser combined well to claim two fine victories 7-5, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-2.

Promotion for Droitwich will be secured should they claim victory against Belbroughton B in their final game of the season on Sunday.

Promotion from Division Three East is still very much on the cards for the Mixed B team following their impressive 3-1 victory away at Bewdley B.

Caroline Brookes and Ben Steel lost their first match 2-6, 2-6 but responded well by winning their second 6-4, 6-3.

Kate Hughes and Oliver Shier were in superb form and produced two performances of the highest quality to win both of their games 6-1, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-0.

The Ladies B team finished off their summer season with a winning draw against Pershore B in Division Four East.

The result leaves Bromsgrove at the summit of the table but they can still be caught by Pershore or Worcester B in the race for the title.

Caroline Brookes and Suzy Levay lost a tight three-set match 4-6, 6-4, 2-6 before responding with a solid 6-1, 6-4 victory in their second.

Lydia Walker-Cox and Linda Price produced a fine display of tennis to win their first match 6-1, 6-3 before a 6-4, 4-6, 1-6 defeat in their second.

Finally, Heather Fellows and Jackie Passey came close in their first match but were narrowly beaten 6-3, 4-6, 1-6. However they battled hard to take the second game 6-2, 7-5 to seal an excellent result.

Elsewhere, the Men’s A team have all but secured their Division One status for another year after defeating Stourbridge A 4-2.

The result was helped by the fact Stourbridge unfortunately arrived with only two of their three pairs, immediately giving Droitwich a 2-0 lead before games started.

Lee Cowan and Ben Buckley then demonstrated their tennis talents by winning both of their matches 6-1, 7-6 and 7-6, 6-2 respectively.

Despite their best efforts, James Nam and Ian Bowman lost their match 4-6, 2-6 as did Mark Jones and Jon Sarriegui by a 4-6, 7-5, 6-7 scoreline.
