DROITWICH Men’s G team sealed promotion by claiming the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Winter League Division 12 East title with an emphatic 3-1 victory over Wollaston D.

Johnathan Carter and Dan Ballard continued their superb form with a 6-1, 6-2 victory in their first match and a 6-0, 6-0 victory in their second.

Richard Probyn-Skinner and Nigel Hughes also won their first match 6-0, 6-0 before a 3-6, 2-6 loss in their second.

The G team have won four of their six matches with the other two being winning draws en route to the division title.

The Ladies G team pushed a strong Halesowen C and came away with a losing draw in Division 11 East.

Caroline Moran and Christine Brighton tried their best but sadly came away with two straight set defeats.

Melanie Cook and Alexa Dean put in two spirited displays to win 7-5, 6-2 and 6-3, 7-5 to come away with a respectable result.

The Men’s B team also came away with a losing draw against Halesowen A in Division Four East.

John Moran and Ben Steel were unlucky not to pick up a positive result as they lost their first match 4-6, 5-7 before an even closer 6-7, 4-6 defeat in their second match.

Joe Maidment and Ian Bowman put in two solid performances and came away with 6-2, 6-3 and 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 victories.

This result means that even though Droitwich lie second in the table, promotion no longer lies in their hands.

The Ladies D team travelled to play Old Hill B in Division Nine East but unfortunately suffered a 3-1 defeat.

Anne Everard and Diane Owen battled hard in their matches but lost them both 1-6, 2-6 and 1-6, 4-6.

Christina Sellers and Claire Evans hit some excellent shots to win their first match 6-4, 6-1 before losing their second match in straight sets.

Finally, relegation from Division One was confirmed for the Ladies A team as they were beaten 4-0 at home to Manor Park A.

Lisa Pettener-Jones and Marelize Yorke gave their all but were beaten 2-6, 6-7 and 4-6, 2-6 respectively.

It was a similar story for Penny Maidment and Sue Webber who lost their first match 2-6, 2-6 and their second 0-6, 5-7.
