Droitwich named North Midlands Club of the Year

Droitwich Editorial 16th Aug, 2017   0

DROITWICH have been voted North Midlands Club of the Year to cap off a memorable 12 months.

The Glyn Mitchell Memorial Ground side reached the final of the RFU Senior Vase, won the Midlands Senior Vase as well as cruise to the Midlands Three West (South) league title with a 100 per cent winning record.

The on-field success was achieved with a squad which was predominantly homegrown and products of the club’s flourishing youth section.

A new coaching team, headed by director of rugby Adam Drew, helped to transform Droitwich’s fortunes around just a year after they were relegated from Midlands Two West (South) having just won one league match all season.

The club’s outstanding achievement has now been recognised by the North Midlands who will present the Peter Grace Trophy to Droitwich chairman Steve Bradbury.

“The competition was very tough,” said Grace.

“This results from the widest selection process ever undertaken and recognises Droitwich’s wonderful playing record including taking a North Midlands Club to Twickenham.

“But the award is not purely about playing.

“Droitwich’s outstanding record in youth development was another major factor.”
