DROITWICH Seconds may have had a break from league action but this did not stop them from securing a 17-10 friendly victory over Birmingham School of Engineering.

Nico Mason opened the scoring on Saturday with a try which was converted by George Priddey.

A penalty from the Engineers then made it 7-3 going into the break.

Following the interval, Phil Shore touched down for an unconverted try.

Brad Cook also went over the line as Droitwich extended their lead to 17-3, but back came the Engineers with a late converted try to set up a tense last eight minutes.

Nerves were high but Droitwich managed to hold out for an impressive win.

Skipper Craig Browne said: “The Engineers were as strong as we had expected and proved to be a very tough test over the weekend.

“It was great to see the new additions to the senior section putting their all into their debuts.

“The Engineers’ strategy was to run us out wide, but some promising defence kept them back in the latter stages of the game.”

Spa return to Midlands Reserve League Division Three action on Saturday when they welcome Dudley Wasps to the Glyn Mitchell Memorial Ground hoping to cement top spot.

Browne added: “Dudley have had a tough start to the season looking at the league standings but I imagine they will play a lot of ball upfront and we need to manage that.

“We aim to retain our top position in the league and should be a great game at home for the lads.”
