WAYNE OLIVER and Mark Owen praised the team on and off the pitch after Droitwich Spa were named as the Midland League team of the month.
The joint-bosses received their first honour with the club after a run of four successive wins earned them the Division Two and overall award for November.
“Droitwich have won the divisional team of the month award before but they had never won the overall award,” said Oliver. “It’s a real honour.
“I would like to thank all the volunteers, the people behind the scenes, from the grounds man to the tea lady, for helping us to get this accolade. It’s not just the results on the pitch. We are building a club.”
The accolade followed the Saltmen reaching the Worcestershire Junior Cup and the team look to progress in another cup competition tomorrow (Saturday) when they visit Barnt Green Spartak in the league’s Presidents Cup.
A semi-finals place alongside Hampton and Chelmsley Town – along with Alvis Sporting or Feckenham – awaits the winners and Oliver expects Spa to be at full-strength at the Coppice ground in Shirley.
They had a free weekend last weekend but trained and the players were put through their paces in training last night before Oliver and Owen finalised the team.
Though Droitwich lie second in the table and Barnt Green are third from bottom, Oliver warns they can expect a tough afternoon.
“We’ve played them once in the league and we scraped through 2-1,” he said. “It was a very tight game last time and we can expect the same again. We need to go there and work hard for everything.
“After not playing last weekend, it will be interesting to see how we start the game. We’ve been in a rich vein of form but we need to be ready to battle from the first whistle.”
