THERE were heavy defeats for both Droitwich’s Firsts and Seconds at they weekend as batsmen failed in their run chases against leading sides in their respective divisions.
Following their 127-run loss to Worcester Nomads, the Firsts lie in the relegation zone in Division One of the Worcestershire League and are yet to muster a win this season albeit they have now played the top four sides.
Spa were tormented with both bat and ball by the home side’s Innocent Kaia, who hit 51 and was one of three half-centurions as Nomads rattled up 256-8.
Richard Henry (58) and Sam Roberts (51), Oli Swift (40) and David White (36) also put in some creditable performances for Nomads.
Droitwich started brightly in reply but after reaching 42-0, they lost three wickets for one run as Max Young, Martyn Davies and Jordan Renau were sent for an early shower.
Spa never recovered from this point and despite a gallant 32 from Jake Young, the visitors capitulated for just 129 as Kaia grabbed 4-8.
James Ganderton (2-41) and Richard Henry (2-34) also go their fair share of wickets for Nomads.
It was a similar story at St Peter’s Fields, where the Seconds were well beaten by Feckenham in their Division Two clash.
Spa did well to restrict their opponents to 241-8 with Muhammed Idrees (67) and Andrew Kings (51) top scoring for the visitors.
With Martin Woodward (3-61) and Jack Eaton (3-61) getting the pick of Spa’s wickets, they failed with the bat as a sorry display saw them bowled out for 92.
Jonathan Keen top scored with just 25 with Ash Fearnall (18) and Peter Gurr (11) the only other Spa batsmen to score more than ten runs.
Meanwhile, the Fourths were defeated by 83 runs at Enville but the Thirds triumphed in the reverse fixture.
Chasing 141, Droitwich openers Nick Sankey (41) and Scott Fenn (51 not out) shared a century stand to clinch a comfortable nine-wicket victory after bowlers Ash Walton (3-27), Paul Foster (3-37) and Adam Shaw (3-42) had shared the wickets.
