RECORD-BREAKING Droitwich Spa swimmer Matt Richards continued his meteoric progression by storming to nine golds at an Open Meet in Wigan.
The 14-year-old came first in the 100m, 200m and 300m freestyle, 50m and 200m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 200m butterfly and the 200m and 400m individual medley.
The Royal Wolverhampton student also set new personal bests in all his races barring the 200m individual medley and broke Meet records in all nine events.
Richards also went into the record books for blistering times in 100m freestyle, 200m butterfly and 400m individual medley.
His time of 51.77s in the 100m freestyle was also the fastest clocked up by a 14-year-old which earned him the Welsh Junior Record at the same time.
To top off a fantastic weekend, Richards also broke the Open County Record in the 400m individual medley.
“I was thrilled to have such a strong weekend,” said Richards.
“I am in heavy training at the moment leading up to the Winter Nationals in December, so to set some new times is great.
“Obviously it’s great to also set some new records, be that for the Meet, at County, or even Welsh National level.
“Then in the New Year I am travelling to Luxembourg with the Welsh Squad to take part in the Euro Meet where I will earn my second Welsh cap.”
