Fearnall fires Droitwich to much-needed victory

Droitwich Editorial 29th Jun, 2016 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

A POWERFUL batting display from Ash Fearnall gave Droitwich a much-needed second win of the season and pulled opponents Pedmore back into the relegation mire.

The youngster hit an impressive 95 not out to steer his side to a comfortable nine-wicket win – just missing out on notching the club’s first century of the summer.

Mixing power with panache, Fearnall struck boundaries to all parts of the ground as Droitwich romped home with 23 overs to spare.

It was an encouraging day for Droitwich with both bat and ball as Pedmore failed to recover from Max Young’s opening burst which saw the seamer claim the first four wickets to fall.

Phil Thomas also grabbed three scalps and there was also two wickets for captain Martyn Davies as the visitors stumbled to 149 all out.

Having closed the gap on their Black Country rivals to just seven points, Spa will be hoping to move out of the relegation zone this weekend when they travel to fellow strugglers Belbroughton, who they are only 11 points behind.

Due to the weather, only one other Droitwich match was completed with the Thirds suffering an eight-wicket defeat at the hands of league leaders Tenbury Wells, who made light work of chasing down 92.

The Seconds were saved by a downpour at Wormelow, where the rain intervened with Spa’s innings in disarray at 94-8.

The Fourths were slightly in the ascendancy in their clash at Tenbury Wells before play ended prematurely with the home side on 107-4.

Free-scoring Bromyard provide the opposition for Droitwich’s second string on Saturday, whilst the Thirds and Fourths take on Barnt Green.
