A LATE goal from Macaulay Finch secured Droitwich Spa an impressive win over Paget Rangers in Midland Football League Division Two on Saturday.
The striker also cancelled out Luke Bradley’s first half strike before netting the winner to end an entertaining game at the King George Playing Fields.
With both sides looking to impress, it was Spa who started the stronger and began on the front foot creating opportunities at regular intervals.
But they suffered a sucker punch on 15 minutes with Paget’s first real attempt in the Spa half. A cross from the left was deflected into the path of the unmarked Bradley who calmly slotted the ball home from 18 yards.
Despite the set back, Droitwich continued to play in an attacking style and were rewarded on 25 minutes with a penalty. But Jack Brighton saw his spot kick saved to keep the visitors in front at the break.
The second period began with Spa again forcing the issue and on 50 minutes should have been level when James Lemon narrowly missed after a sweeping move.
The home side did not have to wait much longer before the scores were level, though, as Finch ran in on goal and smartly beat the keeper.
This was no more than Spa deserved as they continued to play from all over the pitch with chances falling to Max Crisp, Lemon, Haydn Morris and Nick Seabourne.
The game appeared to be heading for a draw, but Droitwich found time for one last effort and Finch finished it. A cross from Lemon found Finch on the back post for his and Spa’s second.
