HIMBLETON ended their Worcestershire County League Division Three campaign on a negative note as they slumped to a ten-wicket defeat to relegated Malvern.

The Meadow Boys opted to bat after winning the toss but failed to recreate their big hitting in recent weeks as they were hurried out for just 119 after 36 overs.

Richard Pretty (18) top scored for visitors who struggled to build consistent partnerships throughout their innings.

Ashton Greenwood (13), Alastair Pretty (16), Mike Rogers (17), Sam Jenkins (12 no) and George Clifton (13) all reached double figures.

Chay Ankers did the damage with the ball for Malvern as he claimed figures of 4-19 from his ten overs.

In reply, Malvern needed just 23.2 overs to claim victory as openers Anthony Arnold (54 no) and David Cox (61 no) guided the Ramblers to 121 to claim all 24 points.

Defeat for the Meadow Boys ensured they finished the campaign seventh in the table.

In the reverse Seconds fixture, the Meadow Boys finished their Division Four Second XI season in style with a 69-run victory to take sixth spot.

After winning the toss, Himbleton opted to bat where they declared at 277-5 in the 41st over.

Andrew Street proved to be the mainstay of the Meadow Boys’ innings with a strong 145 which featured 19 fours and eight sixes.

Martyn Preece also chipped in with an unbeaten 61.

In reply, nine-man Malvern were bowled out for 208. The visitors looked set for victory as George Parsons hit an unbeaten 144 but a total collapse of their lower order gifted Himbleton the win.

Malvern skipper Thomas Fairclough (25) was the only other player to reach double figures.
