Himbleton's winning run ended by stunning unbeaten double century from Kempsey's Zakary O'Neill

HIMBLETON’S bid for a sixth straight Worcestershire County League Division Three victory fell short as they lost in a high-scoring game against fellow promotion contenders Kempsey.

On a perfect Saturday afternoon the batsmen of both sides enjoyed complete dominance over the bowlers as more than 700 runs were racked up in more than 100 overs.

Star of the show was Kempsey’s Zakary O’Neill who posted an impressive 201 not out.

His chanceless knock gave the visitors the impetus as they struggled at 46-2.

He was well supported by his captain Chris Jones who also scored 106.

The 140-run partnership in the final ten overs turned out to be the part of the game which eventually gave Kempsey the advantage as they raced to 394-3.

The Meadow Boys’ batsmen knew the 395 target was achievable as long as they had wickets in had.

However, Kempsey’s bowlers nibbled their way through the hosts’ top order and at 170-6 the game looked over.

Richard Sugden, making his first XI debut, had other ideas though and began the fightback with partner Luke Brace.

The former’s 106 was a pleasure to watch as he carefully built his innings before dismantling the Kempsey attack, striking six majestic maximums on the way.

Together the pair put on 120 before Brace’s departure for 34 effectively ended Himbleton’s outside chance of victory.

Himbleton finally finished on 315 to give the visitors a well-deserved victory.

Stuart Dickenson’s side entertain Malvern on Saturday as the return round of fixtures begin.
