Himbleton's winning streak ended by Kempsey

HIMBLETON’S three-game winning streak in Division Three of the Worcestershire County League came to a crashing halt at the hands of Kempsey.

After the Meadow Boys’ captain Richard Pretty won the toss and elected to field, Kempsey’s opening batsman Tristan Robinson was the star of the show as his 101 off 143 balls guided the home side towards an 118-run victory.

After Robinson was dismissed by Jamie Alford (2-40), Kempsey skipper Zakary O’Neill added a useful 63 with Simon Dorrell (21) and Lance Ohren (22) also adding a sizable contribution.

With Himbleton’s bowlers frustrated, Kempsey finished with an impressive score of 251-5 after their regulatory 50 overs.

After the Meadow Boys’ opening batsman Jon Critchlow (23) was sent back to the pavilion early on, the in-form Alistair Pretty added 72 runs off 71 balls before being dismissed by Steve Winstanley.

After Pretty’s dismissal, the rest of Himbleton’s batting order failed to reach double figures before the visitors were eventually bowled all out for just 133 in the 26th over.

Winstanley (3-8) and Dorrell (3-21) got the lion’s share of the wickets while Adam Baker (2-35) also chipped in for Kempsey who walked away with the 20 points.

Victory for Kempsey lifted them above Himbleton who dropped to eight following the defeat.

It was a similar story for Himbleton Seconds in Division Four as they slumped to a 32-run defeat at home to Himley.

Winning the toss and electing to field, Himbleton were left frustrated as Carl Brandrick’s 53 not out guided Himley towards victory and the 20 points.

Despite Jack Lewis (3) and William Nicholls (6) being quickly dismissed, good contributions with the bat from Daniel Newman (25), Bilal Saleem (22) and Michael Cole (22) pushed Himley to 177-6 in their 45 overs with Himbleton’s Andrew Street claiming three wickets for 44 runs.

In response, Himley’s Tom Wood (4-24) and Mark Read (3-40) made short work of Himbleton’s top six batsman who could only score 31 runs between them.

Richard Lacey went for a quick 12 before Himbleton’s top scorer of the afternoon Matt Edgar added 25.

Himbleton were eventually bowled out for 145 in the 39th over with Casper Jones sitting on ten not out.

The defeat for the Meadow Boys sees them drop out of the promotion spots and into third.
