Jenvey eyes national crown

Droitwich Editorial 24th Apr, 2015 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016   0

DROITWICH boxer David Jenvey will be bidding to become national champion when he competes at the Echo Arena in Liverpool today (Friday).

The superb heavyweight is among five male and female boxers from the West Midlands to have made it through to the final stages of the England Boxing Elite National Championships 2015.

It is the first time in the event’s 128-year history that the men and women’s finals will be held as part of the same tournament and will include 2012 Olympic champion, Nicola Adams.

The latter stages of the tournament are being held over three consecutive days, with the semi-finals taking place on Saturday and the finals on Sunday.

Giorgio Brugnoli, England Boxing board member and chair of the Technical Rules and Championships sub-committee, said: “Having an Olympic champion and household name like Nicola Adams taking part, along with a number of established international male and female boxers that have also won medals at world and European championships and the Commonwealth Games, is great for the competition and a sign of the boxing talent we have in England.

“It also provides an opportunity for up-and-coming boxers to showcase their skills, make a name for themselves and progress their careers in a way that may one day see them go on to compete at world and European championships and the Commonwealth and Olympic Games.”
