DROITWICH Spa joint-bosses Wayne Oliver and Mark Owen have not left it long to make their first summer signing as experienced defender Matthew Hunt joins the Saltmen.
The 26-year-old has joined Spa from Midland League Division One side Pershore Town and has previously played for Southam United and Archdales FC.
Despite only making 12 appearances this season for Pershore, Hunt proved instrumental for Southam in the hugely successful 2014/15 season which saw the Saints finish in a respectable seventh place in Division One as well as reaching the finals of both the Challenge Cup and Coventry Charity Cup.
Along with current Spa players Jack Brighton and Max Crisp, Hunt made appearances at Coventry City’s Ricoh Arena and Walsall’s Banks’s Stadium during those cup runs.
Oliver said: “Matthew is one of those players who has been on our target list and we are delighted to bring him in.
“He’s got plenty of experience and he will tighten up our defence and he will be able to help us close games out when we’re under the cosh.
“It made sense to sign him really. His dad is the goalkeeper coach at Spa and I’ve known Matthew for a long time during his days at Pershore and Archdales.
“We’ve got one signing in and we’re now looking to bring in the next one.
“We will be acting fast over the next few weeks.”
