THERE was plenty to savour for Droitwich-based Kazoku-Kan Judo Club at the Mix and Match competition held in Erdington.

The club took six members to the competition with each of them walking away with a medal.

Fighting first were team-mates Dylan Moore and Matthew Kenny were up against each other with the latter gaining the upper hand to win the first contest.

By the end of their competitions, both Moore and Kenny had claimed bronze medals.

James Worsfold was next on the mat and put up a great fight, keeping his opponents on their toes to come away with a bronze medal.

Josh Warbuton was also a bronze medal winner after displaying some of the best judo of his career so far with some fantastic ground hold reversal which got the crowd applauding.

In his first ever competition, Corey Chapman did not let his inexperience get the better of him as he too won bronze in his category.

Liam Jones was last to fight in what was his second main stream competition in seven months.

Jones showed what he was made of, winning his first contest with authority before putting an outstanding effort in the next to walk away with a silver medal.

Head coach Robert Alloway Said: “When we see children smiling and enjoying competition, it lets us know we are doing our jobs to the best of our ability.

“Judo is about team work, having fun and taking part, the medals are just a bonus.”

Senior instructor Rich Morrish added: “These kids are showing judo is all about the fun and taking part.

“They put into practice what they are taught and come away with smiles on their faces no matter the outcome of their competitions.

“We are so proud of them to step foot on the mat and give it a go, which is what it’s all about.”
