DROITWICH’s Mixed A team picked up a fine draw away at Ombersley A in Division One of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Winter League.
Oli Shier and Lisa Pettener-Jones lost their first match in straight sets but hit back with an excellent 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 victory in their second.
David Wicks and Marelize Yorke battled to the end in both of their matches, losing their first 6-2, 4-6, 1-6 before winning the second game 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.
The Men’s E team slumped to a 3-1 defeat at Cutnall Green C in Division Nine East.
Sam Reavey and Mark Venables gave their all but unfortunately lost both of their matches while Ricky Hollander and John Wright lost their first 6-7, 3-6 but won the second 6-4, 7-6 to claim a consolation.
There was also disappointment for the Men’s C in Division Five East as they lost 4-0 to Worcester E.
John Moran and Neil Bates came close in their first game but lost 6-7, 4-6 before losing the next 0-6, 4-6.
Despite the best efforts of Mark Pearsall and Nick King, they lost both of their games in straight sets.
But there was good news for the Ladies B in Division Four East as they picked up a winning home draw to Beckford.
Heather Fellows and Sue Webber were unlucky to lose their first match 3-6, 6-3, 3-6 before losing the second 2-6, 4-6.
However, Margaret Hughes and Caroline Brookes proved to be the stars of the show as they won both of their matches 6-3, 6-1 and 6-7, 6-0, 6-0 respectively to secure the winning draw.
